
Frogs Picked To Finish Third in Big 12

Abeldt and Silva named preseason All-Big 12
FORT WORTH – In a vote of league coaches, the TCU baseball team was picked to finish third in the 14-team league, garnering one first place votes for a total of 149 points. The Horned Frogs have been picked to finish fourth or higher every year since joining the league. Ben Abeldt and Anthony Silva were named preseason All-Conference while Noah Franco was voted the Preseason Freshman of the Year.
Oklahoma State earned nine first-place votes and was picked first followed by Big 12 newcomer Arizona with four first-place votes. West Virginia and Texas Tech rounded out the top five.
The 2025 conference slate of games for the Horned Frogs features Arizona, Arizona State (picked to finish sixth), Baylor (picked 13th), BYU (picked 14th), Cincinnati (picked 10th), Houston (picked 11th), Kansas (picked ninth), Texas Tech, UCF (picked seventh) and Utah (picked 12th).
Abeldt, a unanimous selection, has been tabbed a preseason All-American by Perfect Game and was named the Preseason Pitcher of the Year by Baseball America. The junior went 3-0 with a 1.83 ERA in 26 appearances last season. He racked up 54 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings of work.
Silva returns for his junior campaign. A veteran of 112 career starts, he is a career .302 hitter with 11 home runs and 83 RBIs. He hit .268 with 14 extra base hits and 33 RBIs while leading the team with 13 stolen bases last season.
Franco made his way to TCU after a highly-decorated prep career at IMG Academy. He was ranked as the No. 7 prospect nationally by Perfect Game and No. 14 by Baseball America. He is a two-time USA Baseball National Team participant and was named a high school by multiple organizations.
TCU, which has been ranked as high as No. 18 in the Perfect Game preseason poll, opens spring practice on Jan. 24. The season-opener at San Diego is set for Friday, Feb. 14. First pitch for the 2024 campaign is set for 8 p.m.
