FORT WORTH – TCU Women's Basketball player Hailey Van Lith and TCU Diver Anna Kwong have been designated by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee as NCAA elite student-athletes, the committee announced earlier this month.
Van Lith, a graduate student for the Horned Frogs, guided Team USA to a bronze medal in 3x3 competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. After starting pool play in last place at 0-3 just last week, Team USA went on a 6-1 run to secure bronze.
Van Lith led Team USA in cumulative scoring (49 points, 5.2 ppg), highlights (28), 2-pointers made (8), 2-point shooting percentage (53%, 8-15 2PT) and total key assists (13). She was the only active collegian selected to compete for USA Basketball in 5-on-5 or 3x3.
Kwong earned elite status with a qualifying score on the women's 3-meter diving event at the 2024 USA Diving Olympic Trials. Her score of 282.35 points earned her a spot on the Team USA Diving Tier 3 squad. The event consisted of just five dives as opposed to six that are normally performed in NCAA competitions.
The senior qualified for the Olympic Trials based on her second-place finish in the 3-meter dive at Big 12 Championships in February. Kwong finished with a school-record 369.75 points while also medaling in the 1-meter.
With their recognition, Van Lith and Kwong will be eligible for unrestricted training and access to developmental training expenses through NCAA exceptions through August 31, 2025. NCAA Division I legislation was passed in 2020 to identify and remove impediments faced by elite student-athletes who are developing, training and competing both collegiately and internationally.
The scope of the USOPC is to establish a bridge between collegiate programs and national teams to enable increased communication and collaboration to strengthen Olympic and Paralympic sport programs and support shared student-athletes participating in Team USA.
