
Tolle Drafted By Red Sox In Second Round

Tolle was a second-team All-American
FORT WORTH – TCU baseball's Payton Tolle was drafted in the second round of the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft with the No. 50 overall pick by the Boston Red Sox.
Tolle was a superstar on the mound this season for the Horned Frogs. The junior ranked third in the league with a 3.21 ERA, second in the league with 125 strikeouts and a .198 opponents batting average. His 81 1/3 innings pitched were the eighth-most in the conference.
He was the unanimous National Pitcher of the Week after his complete-game 1-0 shutout victory at Oklahoma State. He tallied six quality starts during the season, recorded 10 or more strikeouts in a game five times and was the starting pitcher in three of TCU's four shutouts on the year.
The accolades poured in for the junior from Yukon, Okla. He became the first player in Big 12 baseball history to earn Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors in the same season. He was tabbed a second-team All-American by D1Baseball and the NCBWA and a third-team performer by Perfect Game and the ABCA. Additionally, he was named a first-team all-conference performer. He was also a semifinalist for the NCBWA's Dick Howser Trophy and USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award.
Since Kirk Saarloos' rrival on campus prior to the 2013 season, TCU has had 65 draft picks by 22 different organizations. TCU has produced 27 Top 10 round draft picks, including three first round selections, in Saarloos' tenure.
