McGann, Roberson and Young set to transfer to TCU
FORT WORTH – TCU has announced the additions of Melanie McGann, Alexis Roberson and Stephanie Young for the 2024 volleyball season.
McGann heads to TCU after two seasons at West Virginia.
"It is such a blessing that we were able to add Melanie to the roster for this season," Head coach Jason Williams said. "She was a great player in the DFW area and we are lucky that she is bringing her gifts to TCU. She is a great teammate that will add to our culture on and off the court."
In her two seasons with the Mountaineers, McGann played in 126 sets over 42 matches. She racked up 173 kills, averaging 1.37 per set. Four times in her career she recorded 10 or more kills in a game, including a career-high 13 against Northern Colorado (Sept. 9, 2022). On the defensive side of the ball, McGann totaled 106 blocks.
A native of Keller, Texas, McGann has been a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. She holds the Keller High School single-season record with 556 kills and was ranked as the No. 44 recruit in the state of Texas by PrepDig and the No. 7 right-side hitter coming out of high school.
Roberson comes to Fort Worth after two seasons at LSU.
"We are unbelievably excited that Alexis is going to be a Frog," said Williams. "Her physicality and experience will immediately help us on the court and her spirited and fun personality is going to be a joy to be around."
As a redshirt freshman in 2023, she appeared in 50 sets over 14 matches while making 13 starts. She averaged 0.80 blocks per set and tallied 40 blocks and 67 kills. Against Mississippi State (Nov. 25), Roberson-Higareda recorded a season-high 10 kills at a .412 clip with three blocks.
She was a 2021 AVCA First Team All-American out of Ridge Point High School. Roberson-Higareda was the No. 92 recruit according to Prep Volleyball in 2021 after being a two-time District 20-6A selection. A rockstar in the club scene as well, the Missouri City, Texas, native played club volleyball for the Houston Juniors where they won first place at Nationals USA Division (2021) and at the Show Me Qualifier USA Division (2021).
Young arrives to Fort Worth after four years at FAU and one year at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
"We are blessed that Stephanie has joined the Frog Fam for her final season," Williams said. "Her experience and skill set is going to elevate our program on and off the court. I have known her family for a long time and they are incredible people and I'm excited we get to spend Stephanie's last season together."
Young, who hails from Frisco, Texas, played volleyball for four years with the Owls. As a setter and right side, she tallied 253 sets played over 73 matches. She amassed 1,000 total assists and finished her FAU career with 1,034 assists, along with 95 career kills.
She tallied a career-high 34 assists against Middle Tennessee (March 26, 2021) along with a career-best six blocks in the match as well. Young was also huge defensively as she totaled 434 career digs and 32 blocks over her four years.
She also played a season of beach volleyball with the Owls (2023) and Texas A&M Corpus Christi (2024). With the Islanders, Young was instrumental in their third consecutive NCAA Championships. She earned Southland First Team All-Conference honors after going 25-11 on the season, primarily from court three.
