Maxwell hits third home run of the season
FORT WORTH – Four West Virginia home runs accounted for all the Mountaineers scoring as they evened the series with a 7-2 win over TCU Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Logan Maxwell homered for the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
West Virginia built a 6-0 lead on a trio of two run home runs. JJ Wetherholt accounted for two of the home runs as he connected in the third to give the Mountaineers the early lead. His second of the game came with two outs in the fourth. Mixed in was a two run home run from Grant Hussey.
TCU cut into the WVU lead with a pair of runs in the fourth. Logan Maxwell opened the inning with a home run. Kurtis Byrned followed with a double and scored on a Mountaineer miscue after Luke Boyers reached on an infield single.
The Frogs had base runners in every inning but two but could never string things together as they ultimately stranded eight in the game. The Mountaineers fourth home run, a solo, came leading off the sixth to account for the final score.
Kole Klecker (1-3) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out one. Chase Hoover fanned a career-high five, allowing three runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of work. Braeden Sloan, Andrew Mosiello, Mason Bixby and Storm Hierholzer each tossed scoreless innings.
