Horned Frogs honor four seniors in their final match at home
FORT WORTH – With emotions running high on senior day, No. 22 volleyball left no doubts, sweeping Texas Tech in front of a packed Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs (19-7, 11-5 Big 12) dominated the Red Raiders in straight sets, putting on a show for 3,012 fans, the sixth-largest crowd in program history. It marked TCU's 14th victory of the season in Schollmaier, tying the school record for most wins at home in a single season (2007) and the most wins in a single season since the 2015 campaign.
All four seniors earned starts in their final regular season match at home. Ashlyn Bourland, Cecily Bramschreiber, Melanie Parra and Stephanie Young were heavily involved, combining for 19 kills, 20 assists and 16 digs on the night. Further, all four seniors recorded an ace in the win, led by Bramschreiber, who tied her career-high with four. Parra paced the team with 14 kills in the sweep, followed by Jalyn Gibson with 11 on just 19 swings. Lily Nicholson and Young ran the offense, helping TCU hit at a .325 clip, its 10th match this season above the .300 threshold. Defensively, the Frogs tallied nine blocks, led by Gibson and Sarah Sylvester with five each.
With both teams searching for footing in the opening set, it was TCU breaking through with a 7-2 run to take a convincing lead into the media timeout. Bramschreiber sparked the rally, slamming down a kill, and Gibson, Parra and Alexis Roberson kept the onslaught going as the Frogs went on to hit .417 in the set. TCU showed no signs of slowing down, feeding off energy from its teammates and fans. An ace from Becca Kelley capped off the first set, handing the Frogs a dominant 25-14 victory.
Texas Tech came out aggressive in the second set, jumping out to a quick 8-5 lead. Looking for a way to swing the momentum back in the Frogs' favor, Bramschreiber and Young stepped up, applying pressure at the service line. The two seniors led runs of 3-0 and 5-0 to help TCU flip the script and take a 15-10 lead. The Red Raiders battled back to tie the match at 20 all and even went on to secure set point at 24-22. Unfazed, Gibson helped the Frogs side out, and TCU found a little senior night magic from Bramschreiber, who aced Tech twice in the final three points, to end things on a 4-0 run and win set two 26-24.
Leading two sets to none, the Frogs made quick work of Texas Tech to close out the match. They doubled up the Red Raiders at 10-5 before pouring it on and increasing the lead to 14. Bourland capped off a 5-0 run down the stretch with her first career ace to make it set point. An attack error closed out the match as everything went TCU's way to secure the sweep.
No. 22 TCU hits the road for its final two contests of the 2024 season, taking on West Virginia on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 29.
