U.S. Army bound tight end recognized for his academic excellence
IRVING, Texas -- TCU tight end Dominic DiNunzio has been selected to the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society.
The Hampshire Honor Society recognizes seniors or graduated players with a minimum undergraduate cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 while being a starter or significant contributor.
DiNunzio, who never played football until arriving on campus, attended TCU on an ROTC scholarship and will soon enter the U.S. Army. He was selected by TCU's ROTC as the Most Outstanding Cadet and received TCU's prestigious Pillar of Purple Award. He was also a two-time First-Team Academic All-Big 12 recipient. The Dean's List student graduated in December with a degree in finance and accounting and a minor in military science.
DiNunzio was a finalist for the 2022 Armed Forces Merit Award presented by the Football Writers Association of America. He was also a semifinalist for the NFF's William V. Campbell Trophy, given to the nation's top football scholar-athlete.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, DiNunzio played in the opening 10 games in 2022 before a season-ending injury late in the 17-10 win at Texas. He started at tight end in the 38-31 victory at Kansas and was a key member of TCU's special teams.
After walking on to the team, he started four games in 2021 and became a Team Captain. He totaled six receptions for 69 yards on the year with his first career touchdown coming in the 30-28 win over Baylor. He had a career long 46-yard reception at Oklahoma State.
