Miles, Frimodt, Gray, MacTavish and Vergara Honored by TCU
FORT WORTH – Mike Miles of men's basketball, Gustav Frimodt of men's golf, Iyana Gray of women's track and field, Sutton MacTavish and Ana Vergara of beach volleyball have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Miles averaged 25 points in the NCAA Tournament, scoring 26 points against Arizona State and 24 points against Gonzaga. Miles went on to shoot 14-of-28 (50%) from the field and 4-of-9 (44%) from 3-point range. His 26 points against Arizona State was the fourth-most ever by a TCU player in the NCAA Tournament.
Frimodt finished second by one stroke at the GCU Invitational with a career-best score vs. par of 11-under 202. His 7-under par 64 was a career low and tied for the third-best in program history vs. par. He was one of two participants that finished under par in all three rounds of the tournament, scoring a 69, 64 and 69 (par was 71). Frimodt helped TCU capture its first team title in two seasons. The men's golf team returns to action this weekend, March 26-27, as they travel to Wilmington, North Carolina for the Seahawk Intercollegiate.
Gray won both the 100 and 200-meter events at the TCU Alumni Invite. She also ran on the winning 4x100 relay team. Gray is currently ranked No. 2 on the TFRRS performance list for the 100-meter event. The women's track and field team return to action this Friday, March 24, as they travel to Waco, Texas for the Clyde Hart Classic.
MacTavish and Vergara displayed a perfect performance at the FIU Surf N' Turf Invitational this past weekend. The pair grabbed four victories, with three of which being over Top-15 ranked opponents (No. 2 USC, No. 14 FIU, No. 15 FAU). The duo spent Friday's matches at the No. 2 position boasting ranked victories over No. 2 USC (21-17, 21-16) and No. 14 FIU (21-18, 16-21, 15-10). On Saturday, the pair was posted at the No. 1 position closing out a perfect weekend with victories over No. 15 FAU (21-14, 22-20) and Jacksonville (21-15, 21-12). The beach volleyball team returns to action this Friday, March 24, as they take on FIU and California in Fort Worth.
