
Four Horned Frogs Awarded CCSA Preseason Honors

TCU awarded five preseason awards, the most by any team in the CCSA
FORT WORTH – Four members of the No. 3 TCU Beach Volleyball team have been named to the Costal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Preseason All-Conference team announced on Feb. 22. This marks the second consecutive season that TCU has been represented in the preseason awards. The four honorees are the most in a single season for TCU.
For the second consecutive year, senior Daniela Alvarez was selected as CCSA Preseason Player of the Year in addition to her unanimous spot on the CCSA Preseason All-Conference team. Alongside Alvarez, senior Sutton MacTavish and junior Tania Moreno were also recognized. Freshman Anhelina Khmil was named to the Preseason Player Watchlist.
As one of the most decorated athletes in TCU program history, Alvarez collected 10 awards last season alone. She was also one of two athletes to be unanimously named to the Preseason All-Conference team. Playing all matches from the No. 1 position alongside Team Spain partner, Tania Moreno, Alvarez tallied a 29-6 season record including a 14-6 record over ranked opponents in 2022. The Alvarez/Moreno duo is the winningest pair in program history boasting a 54-15 career record over the past two seasons and a 25-13 career record over ranked opponents.
Moreno was also named to the Preseason All-Conference team for the second consecutive season. She concluded last season with a record of 33-9, boasting a 17-9 mark over ranked opponents, all from the No. 1 position. She was decorated at the end of last season with four post-season awards: CCSA Pair of the Year alongside Alvarez, CCSA All-Conference Team honors, and both AVCA Top-flight and AVCA first-team All-America honors for the second time in her career. Additionally, Moreno has excelled off the court, earning a spot on the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 Team.
MacTavish was honored for the first time in her career. The Texas native began her fall with a silver medal at the 2022 AVCA Pairs Tournament in Huntsville, Ala. with partner, Ana Vergara. Last season, MacTavish notched a 27-11 record playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. She boasts a 13-10 record over ranked opponents with notable victories over No. 1 UCLA, No. 4 Loyola Marymount, No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 LSU and No. 9 Hawaii. She was named to the 2022 CCSA Tournament All-Conference team with partner Kaylie McHugh for her stellar performance in the postseason tournament.
Anhelina Khmil joins the TCU program as a first-year from Kremenchuk, Ukraine where she has had an extensive professional career. In 2022 alone, Khmil tallied two first-place finishes, at the U20 European World Championship in Turkey and at the FIVB World Tour in Warsaw. She claimed silver at the FIVB World Tour in Poland and bronze at the U20 European World Championship in the Netherlands. Khmil also notched three top-5 finishes at FIVB World Tour locations in Madrid, Cervia and Mysłowice. As a Horned Frog this fall, Khmil notched top-10 finishes at both the West Coast Collegiate Championship and the AVCA Pairs Tournament against some of the best pairings in the country.
