FORT WORTH - Jake Fearnley of men's tennis, Jessica McAllister of equestrian, Julie Johannessen of rifle, Mike Miles of men's basketball and Ollie Cazaly of swimming and diving have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Over the weekend Fearnley helped the TCU men's tennis team punch its fifth consecutive, and 20th all-time, berth to the ITA Indoor National Championships with 4-0 shutouts over Gonzaga and Texas Tech. Fearnley led TCU to its 10th and 11th consecutive ITA Kickoff Weekend wins, all of which have been sweeps inside the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Fearnley has yet to surrender a set in singles or doubles this season, and boosted his combined singles record to 13-2 in 2022-23. His win over Texas Tech's Ollie Wallin became Fearnley's second singles victory over Wallin in 2022-23, as his pervious win was in the round of 16 of the ITA Texas Regional on Oct. 16. Fearnley was the first player off the court on Saturday, picking up a win against Sasha Trkulja of Gonzaga, winning 6-3, 6-2.
TCU men's tennis is back in action this Thursday, Feb. 2nd, as they take on Tennessee in Knoxville, then on Sunday, Feb. 5, as they take on North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
McAllister rode to a match and career-high score of 79.5 on Brady in horsemanship helping TCU's 16-3 win over South Dakota on Jan. 26. She also picked up her third most outstanding performer accolade in eight outings in 2022-23. McAllister led TCU to its fourth consecutive 5-0 sweep in horsemanship, boosting TCU to a 7-1 record in the event this season. McAllister now sports an 11-2 overall record in Western in 2022-23, as she also notched a 66.5-65.5 in reining at the meet. She helped the program maintain its No. 2 NCEA dual discipline team ranking and boosted its overall record to 7-1 with the performance.
Equestrian is back in action Feb. 10, as they take on Fresno State in Fresno.
Johannessen returns as a Student-Athlete of the Week, as she fired a perfect score in air rifle. She also shot a 595 in smallbore on top of her perfect score. Johannessen now holds a career-high 1195 aggregate.
Rifle is back in action this Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Miles scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to lead TCU to a 79-52 win over Oklahoma, shooting 6-for-9 from the field. Miles shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, which was his fourth game of the season shooting perfect from the line and has made 14-straight dating back West Virginia. Miles was the eight TCU player ever to be perfect from the free throw line with at least 10 attempts, and the first since Vladimir Broadziansky's 10-for-10 against Kansas on Jan. 6, 2018, to do it. Miles' 10 free throws ties the most ever made by a TCU player against the Sooners.
The TCU men's basketball team faces off against Oklahoma State on Feb. 4 in Stillwater.
Cazaly recorded first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, with his score on the 1-meter becoming the second-highest score in TCU History. Both scores earned Cazaly Zone cuts in both events.
TCU men's swimming and diving returns to this Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Pre-Conference Time Trials in Dallas, Texas.
