Johannessen, Macnab, Fearnley, Nalls and Miller honored by TCU
Fort Worth – Julie Johannessen of rifle, Caitlyn Macnab of women's golf, Jake Fearnley of men's tennis, Audrey Nalls of volleyball and Kendre Miller of football have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
In her first match, Johannessen finished first in both disciplines, firing a 595 in smallbore which tied for third in program history. On the air rifle, the freshman shot a 599, for a combined score of 1,194. Out of the 120 shots fired, Johannessen scored a perfect 10 on 114 shots. As a team, the TCU rifle team set an NCAA record for total aggregate score with 4,758 against Navy.
Rifle will travel to Colorado for a match with Air Force on Oct. 2.
Macnab took home the individual title at the Schooner Fall Classic with a final round score of six under par, which ranks as the second-lowest round in school history. In 54 holes, the sophomore from South Africa shot a 200 which set a new school record.
Women's Golf will head to Dubin, Illinois for the Barbara Nicklaus cup Oct. 3-4.
Fearnley, a junior from Scotland, won the singles title at the Battle of the Bay Classic. He became the first Horned Frogs to hoist the chalice since Alex Rybakoy in 2018. In five matches, Fearnley went unbeaten only dropping one set. He defeated No. 32 ranked Jonas Eriksson Ziverts of Arizona 6-4, 7-5 in the finals. He also made a semifinals appearance in doubles with Luc Fomba.
Next, men's tennis will head to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the ITA All-American Championships Oct. 1-9.
Nalls, an outside hitter from Waxahachie, Texas, earned Big 12 Player of the Week while leading TCU in kills and digs against Baylor and Iowa St. Against the Cyclones, the senior tallied 16 kills and 13 digs for her second straight double-double and third of the fall. She ranks eighth in the conference in points per set (3.68) and kills per set (3.26). Nalls is averaging 17.4 kills per match for the Frogs in her last four matches.
Volleyball's next outing is this Thursday, Sept. 29 versus West Virginia. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
Kendre Miller rushed for 142 yards on 17 attempts at SMU. His 100-yard performance is his fifth time eclipsing the century mark in his career. On the game's first play from scrimmage, the junior dashed for 35 yards which marks a season long. Miller added a 28-yard touchdown in the first quarter which gives him a touchdown in all three games this season.
TCU football will be back in action against No. 18 Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Amon G. Carter stadium. Kick-off is set for 11:00 a.m.
