Bright, Sylvester and Williams honored by TCU
FORT WORTH – Messiah Bright of soccer, Sarah Sylvestor and Callie Williams of volleyball have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Bright, a Graduate Student from Dallas, scored two goals including a game tying goal in a 2-2 draw against No. 16 Harvard. This is her second straight game scoring a goal bringing her to a team leading seven goals on the season.
Soccer will return to Garvey Rosenthal for their Big 12 home opener on Thursday against Texas. The first kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Sylvestor, a freshman, recorded a career-high nine of TCU's 18.5 total blocks in a four-set win over Alabama on Friday. That is the third-most blocks in a match in school history. She followed this performance with eight blocks in a 3-2 win over Abilene Christian on Saturday. Sylvestor currently ranks fifth and leads all Big 12 freshmen in blocks per set (1.31). This ranks her No. 46 nationally and is fourth-best among all Division I freshmen.
Williams, a native of Waco, Texas, recorded her 2000th career assist on Friday to help TCU win 3-1 against Alabama. She topped it off with her second double-double of the fall with a 44 assist, 12 dig effort in a five-set win over Abilene Christian on Saturday. During the Horned Frog Invitational, she amassed 94 total assists across the three matches. Williams currently ranks seventh among her conference peers in assists per set (7.95).
The volleyball team will head to Waco to begin conference play against Baylor on Wednesday. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
