Horned Frogs begin play Friday in Hockley, Texas
FORT WORTH -- The No. 28 TCU women's golf team begins play Friday at the Big 12 Championship in Hockley, Texas.
The Horned Frogs will look to continue the momentum from their last outing, when they finished second at The Bruzzy with a 9-under 855. Sabrina Iqbal was the medalist after carding a TCU record 9-under 63 to rally from six shots back for the second title of her career. The 63 also tied for the 11th-lowest round in NCAA history.
The Event
The Big 12 Championship is held at the par 71, 6,249-yard The Clubs at Houston Oaks. The course features Bermuda grass fairways and TifEagle Bermuda grass greens. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days. TCU's Friday tee times begin at 9 a.m. with live scoring HERE.
Conference Tourney Time
The Horned Frogs have finished first or second in 14 of their last 23 conference tournaments covering four different leagues (WAC, Conference USA, Mountain West and Big 12).
Going Low
TCU'S 288.0 stroke average this season is on pace to set a school record. The Horned Frogs have already shattered their program mark with 13 rounds of par or better, 407 birdies and 17 eagles. TCU has four top-4 finishes, including a pair of runner-up results, in nine tournaments.
Quote of the Day
"This is the best time of year," TCU Head Coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "We are excited for our conference championship this week at Houston Oaks. We will continue to focus on our positive and competitive mindset."
The Lineup
TCU's lineup will feature Sabrina Iqbal, Caitlyn Macnab, Lois Lau, Trinity King and Valeria Pacheco.
Iqbal and Macnab are 27th and 36th, respectively, in Golfweek's national player rankings. Iqbal, Macnab and Pacheco are tied for the TCU season record with five eagles.
Iqbal's title at The Bruzzy made her one of just four players in program history with multiple tournament championships. Her 70.9 stroke average is on pace to break her own TCU mark of 72.0 from the 2019-20 campaign. She is already the program's all-time leader with 56 rounds of par or better, including 18 this season, and 341 birdies. Her nine career eagles are one off the top spot. The senior from San Jose, Calif., has a team-best 10 sub-70 rounds this season. In 38 career tournaments, she has 27 top-20 finishes with 17 in the top 10.
Macnab is right behind Iqbal with a 71.0 stroke average that's also on pace to set a new TCU record. Over her last four tournaments, she is a combined 16-under-par. A freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, Macnab has four top-3 results, including three runner-up finishes. She has set TCU records this season with 106 birdies and 19 rounds of par or better.
Lau is third on TCU with a 73.9 stroke average while playing in eight of nine tournaments. The sophomore from Noisy-sur-Ecole, France, has two top-10 finishes.
King is in her second straight tournament and fourth of the season. The junior from Arlington, Texas, will be playing in her first Big 12 Championship.
A senior from Hallandale Beach, Fla., Pacheco has lowered her stroke average each year in the program. She has played in all nine tournaments this season with her career-best 74.6 mark placing fourth on the team.
