A total of five equestrian riders named to All-Big 12 Team
IRVING, Texas – TCU equestrian head coach Haley Schoolfield, along with senior Isabella Baxter and sophomore Jessica McAllister, highlighted the All-Big 12 Conference Team awards that the league announced on Saturday.
Schoolfield was named the league's head coach of the year, while Baxter and McAllister were both tabbed riders of the year. Baxter was named the league's Fences Rider of the Year and McAllister was named the Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Year.
In addition to Baxter and McAllister both being named to the All-Big 12 Team, fellow riders Raegan Rast, Sydney Berube and Mattie Dukes also took home All-Big 12 honors. Rast, a graduate student, earned all-conference honors in fences, Berube, a sophomore, earned the honor in flat, and Dukes, a junior, also earned the honor in horsemanship.
TCU matched last season's total of five riders earning All-Big 12 honors, which is tied for third-most all-time. The five all-conference nods trails only TCU's seven selections from 2018 and the six honorees from 2015 and 2019.
Schoolfield was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for a second time in her career and first since the 2014 campaign. Schoolfield, who is in her ninth season with the Horned Frogs, becomes just the third head coach in the Big 12 to earn multiple coach of the year honors, joining Oklahoma State's Larry Sanchez and Kansas State's Casie Maxwell.
Schoolfield guided the Frogs to a 10-5 regular-season record, which included a season-ending seven-match win streak. All seven wins came against ranked opponents.
Baxter went 9-4 in the fences discipline this season, which included earning a team-best four Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) accolades. She becomes TCU's fourth all-time Big 12 Fences Rider of the Year and first since Rast won the honor back in 2020.
McAllister led the Frogs with a total of 12 wins this season, which included eight victories and three MOP's in horsemanship. She finished the regular-season with an overall mark of 12-2, on the way to earning Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Year honors for a second-straight year and giving TCU its fourth rider of the year honor in this event.
McAllister is first TCU athlete to earn rider of the year honors in back-to-back seasons since Chantz Stewart was dubbed the Reining Rider of the Year back in 2015 and 2016.
Berube went 9-3 on the year in flat, while earning one MOP. She tallied a season-best score of 90 in the event in a win over SMU in early February.
Dukes tallied a record of 9-3-1 in horsemanship, with a total of three MOP's. She notched a season-best score of 77 and earned MOP honors in a win over No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State in February.
Rast notched a record of 10-5 overall in fences, earning a total of two MOP's. She tallied a season-best score of 88 in a meet against South Dakota State back in October. This is her third time receiving all Big-12 honors as a Horned Frog along with being named Fences Rider of the Year in 2020.
This marks the second All-Big 12 team honor for Baxter, Dukes and McAllister. Baxter was All-Big 12 in 2019, while Dukes and McAllister were both all-conference selections last season. This is the first all-conference honor for Berube.
TCU is coming off a second-place finish in the Big 12 Championships. The Frogs will now await its seeding in the NCEA National Championships, which will be held April 14-16 in Ocala, Fla.
