Five earn weekly honors
FORT WORTH – Juan Carlos Aguilar of men's tennis and Mattie Dukes of equestrian along with Mike Miles, Damion Baugh and Eddie Lampkin of men's basketball have all been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Aguilar, a graduate student from La Paz, Bolivia, went 5-0 this past week after winning both of his singles matches at No.2 and all three doubles at No.3. Aguilar's winning streak helped lead TCU to triumph over Abilene Christian, Portland, and Tulsa to qualify for their fourth consecutive ITA Indoor Team National Championship.
Men's tennis will continue home play this Sunday, when they face-off against No. 14 Ole Miss. The first serve is scheduled for noon in the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Dukes, a junior from Weatherford, Texas, went 3-1 overall after competing in both Horsemanship and Reining to help guide TCU to a 2-0 record on the weekend with wins over a pair of top 10 teams. After going 2-0 in Horsemanship, Dukes was recognized with a Most Outstanding Player honor after their matchup against Delaware State.
Equestrian is back on the road this weekend for a meet at No. 6 SMU. Events begin at 11 a.m. at the Dallas Equestrian Center in Dallas, Texas.
Men's basketball had a slam dunk week after recording their first ever win at Oklahoma in program history and defeating No.19 LSU at home.
Miles, a sophomore from Highland Hills, Texas, averaged 14.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists overall during the Frogs' 2-1 week. Miles also led the team in scoring, rebounds and assists with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the Frogs' win over LSU.
Baugh, a junior from Nashville, Tenn., led his team in scoring in the win at Oklahoma with a team-best 20 points. He averaged 13 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists across the week.
Lampkin, a freshman from Houston, Texas, recorded 10 rebounds and a career-high 14 points to help the Frogs defeat the Sooners. He averaged 8.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and shot 73.3 percent from the field across the week.
Men's basketball will be back in Schollmaier Arena this Saturday for a match-up against Kansas State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
