Miles, Peavy, Nalls, Duggan and Newton Honored by TCU
FORT WORTH – Mike Miles and Micah Peavy of basketball, Audrey Nalls of volleyball, and Max Duggan and Josh Newton of football have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Miles, a junior, was named MVP of the Emerald Coast Classic after averaging 19.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game to lead TCU to the title. Miles had 15 to guide TCU to a 79-66 win over No. 25 Iowa in the championship. After missing the previous two games due to injury, he started the tournament scoring 23 points off the bench to lead TCU to a 59-48 win over Cal in the semifinal.
Peavy, a native of Cibolo, Texas earned all-tournament team honors at the Emerald Coast Classic after averaging 12 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals. He tied a career-high with 16 points in the finals against Iowa
Basketball will host Jackson State in Schollmaier Arena on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Nalls, a senior, was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this fall on Tuesday. She is the lone player in 2022 and just the ninth in Big 12 history to receive the honor four times in a season. Nalls guided TCU to a sweep of Oklahoma in its regular season finale tallying a match-high 18 points behind 12 kills and five service aces. Nalls closed conference play ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 in kills (266), kills per set (4.36), points (293) and points per set (4.80). Her 266 kills were 53 more than any other player.
The volleyball team will travel to Madison, Wisconsin to play Washington in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. This will be the Horned Frogs first appearance in the tournament since 2016. The first serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Duggan, a senior from Council Bluffs, Iowa, made his 40th career start and led TCU to the Big 12's first 9-0 conference record since Oklahoma in 2016. He completed 17-of-24 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The three TD passes gave him 29 on the season, third-most at TCU behind only Trevone Boykin (33, 2014; 31, 2015)
Newton, a junior who transferred from Louisiana-Monroe, had a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown to go with two pass breakups and four tackles to lead a TCU defense that allowed just 330 yards in a 62-14 win over Iowa State.
Horned Frogs football will travel to Arlington, Texas for a rematch against Kansas State on Saturday. In their previous game, TCU came back from an 18-point deficit to win 38-28. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
