Horned Frogs sit second nationally in aggregate average
FORT WORTH, Texas – After a three-week hiatus, the No. 2 ranked TCU returns to the rifle range Saturday at No. 11 Ohio State. The three-team match also features No. 7 Nebraska. The Horned Frogs the top two scores in the NCAA this season.
The Horned Frogs welcome back to the fold freshmen Katie Zaun and Julie Johannessen as well as Anne White. All three missed the last match while competing at the World Championships in Egypt.
Heading to Columbus for the Frogs this season will be Stephanie Allan, Abigail Gordon, Kristen Hemphill, Mikole Hogan, Julie Johannessen, Nina Schuett, Grace Taschuk and Katie Zaun.
As a team, TCU has been on the mark through three matches. The Frogs have fired the top two aggregate scores in NCAA history and sit second nationally with an aggregate average of 4,744.3. TCU leads in air rifle average by a wide margin, posting a season average of 2,387. In smallbore, the Frogs are second nationally with an average of 2,357.25.
Individually, TCU boasts the top three shooters in the country. Johannessen leads the country with an average of 1,193.5, followed closely by Abigail Gordon (1,190.7) and Stephanie Grundsoee (1,190.5). Kristen Hemphill (1,180.25) and Stephanie Allan (1,179) rank in the top 20.
Johannessen is one of three shooters nationally to be averaging an air rifle score of 599.0 on the year. Hemphill sits close behind with an average of 598 and Gordon with a 597.67. White and Zaun sit in the top 10 with a 596.0 average.
In smallbore, Johannessen again paces the nation with an average of 594.5. Gordon sits fourth with a 593.0 season average.
Nebraska ranks fifth nationally in aggregate average at 4,700.5. The Cornhuskers are averaging a 2,369.5 in air rifle and a 2,331.25 in smallbore. Cecilia Ossi is the top aggregate shooter for Nebraska (1180.5). Emma Rhode leads the team in air rifle average (594.75) and Madelynn Erickson paces the team in smallbore (586.25).
Ohio State sits 11th nationally with an aggregate average of 4,675.33. The Buckeyes own a 2,353.5 air rifle average and a 2,321.83 smallbore average. Viktor Kiss is the Buckeyes top shooter with a 1,176.8 aggregate average and a 587.6 smallbore average. Derek Keiser leads the squad in air rifle (590).
The match is slated to begin at 8 a.m. (CT).
