FORT WORTH – Gustav Frimodt of men's golf, Sofia Barroso Sá of women's golf, Audrey Nalls of volleyball and Quentin Johnston of football have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Frimodt, a senior, won medalist honors at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational and defeated 15 of the worlds best 30 players to win his first college tournament. He shot a 5-under 65 in the final round and an 8-under 202 for the tournament, tying his career-lows vs. par.
Men's Golf will start the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Monday, October 17 at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.
Barroso Sá, a freshman out of Portugal, won medalist honors at Barbara Nicklaus Cup. She was one of just two players in the field that carded a score of even-par or better in at least one round. In her second collegiate event, she became the first true freshman to win a tournament since Sabrina Iqbal in October 2018. Barroso Sá guided TCU to a third-place finish, giving the Horned Frogs back-to-back events at second place or better for the first time since 2020.
Women's Golf will go to San Marcos, Texas for The Jim West Invitational on October 23rd and 24th.
Nalls, a senior, was awarded Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week while averaging six kills per set in TCU's contests at No. 1 Texas and vs. Texas Tech. Across the two matches, Nalls racked up 42 combined kills and landed a career-high 26 kills to lead TCU to a 3-1 win over Texas Tech on Saturday. Her 26 kills were the most in a four-set match by any Big 12 player this season. Nalls is averaging 20.4 kills per match in Big 12 play which is the most of any player in the conference. She also leads the Big 12 in points per set (5.55) and kills per set (5.20) in conference play.
The volleyball team will visit Lawrence, Kansas for their first matchup of the year against the Jayhawks on Wednesday. The first serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Johnston, a native of Temple, Texas, was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after putting up a career-high 14 receptions including a 24-yard touchdown with 1:36 to play for the game-winning score. His 14 receptions is tied for the most by an FBS player this season and the most by a Horned Frog since Josh Doctson had 18 in a 55-52 win at Texas Tech in 2015. Johnston also gained 206 yards receiving which is the best by a Big 12 player and sixth-most nationally in 2022. The last Horned Frog to surpass this mark was Taj Williams who had 210 yards versus Oklahoma in 2016.
Horned Frogs football will host Oklahoma State in a top 15 matchup on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
