Cole, Gums earn weekly honors
FORT WORTH – Madilyn Cole of volleyball and Justin Gums of men's golf, have both been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Cole, a redshirt sophomore from Magnolia, Texas, is having a season for the record books. The Texan recently tallied 12 blocks to help lead the team to a 3-1 victory over Incarnate Word. She has recorded at least one block per set in all seven of her career matches and is currently ranked second in the Big 12 for blocking.
The volleyball team will kick off Big 12 play this weekend in Ames, Iowa with their matchup against Iowa State.
Gums had an outstanding weekend at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational in Carrollton, Texas. The senior from Lodi, Calif. shot a career low 6-under-66 in the final round and shot even-par 216 and tied for seventh place in a field that included nine of the top 25 collegiate players in the country.
Men's golf will be back in action Oct. 4-5 when it hosts the Colonial Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
