Bright, Evans, Iqbal and Johnston earn weekly honors
FORT WORTH – Messiah Bright of women's soccer, Zach Evans and Quentin Johnston of football, and Sabrina Iqbal of women's golf, have all been named TCU Student-Athletes of the week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Bright, a senior from Dallas, Texas, was recently named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for her performance in last week's victory on the road over Ohio State. Bright tallied two goals marking her first multi-goal match of the season and fourth of her career.
The women's soccer team will be back on their home pitch this Thursday as they face off against nationally ranked Pepperdine.
This past weekend Evans and Johnston helped lead football to a thrilling 34-32 victory over California. Evans, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, rushed a career-high 190 yards on 22 carries and scored a game changing 51-yard touchdown, earning the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his performance. Johnston, a sophomore from Temple, Texas, recorded a team-best five receptions for 95 yards and snagged two touchdown catches.
Football will be back in Amon G. Carter Stadium on Sept. 25, for the 100thbattle for the Iron Skillet against SMU. Kickoff is at 11 a.m.
Iqbal, a senior from San Jose, Calif, had a record-breaking weekend at the Sam Golden Invitational in Denton, Texas. She tied for third after breaking her own school record for 54-hole score with a 12-under 204. The San Jose native also recorded her 15thcareer sub-70 score.
The women's golf team is back in action on Sept. 25, at the Schooner Fall Classic.
