Horned Frogs return to old favorites, play in DFW twice
FORT WORTH – Colonial Country Club will once again host the TCU men's golf team in the fall as one of many challenging tournaments put together by head coach Bill Montigel.
The Colonial Collegiate Invitational was one of the first collegiate men's golf tournaments played last season. That event returns this season to the historic course near the TCU campus, Oct. 4-5.
Many mainstays on the TCU schedule over the years were not played last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but will return this season. That includes the Carmel Cup, where the Frogs will begin the season Sept. 3-5 in Pebble Beach, Calif. It will be the eighth time in the last 10 years that TCU will compete at one of the most beautiful courses in the world, Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The first time TCU will compete in the DFW area will be Sept. 13-15 at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational at Maridoe Golf Club just north of Dallas.
Following Colonial, TCU will head to The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas for the fourth annual Big 12 Match Play Tournament.
After a year away, TCU will return to the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational, Oct. 22-24 in Alpharetta, Ga.
TCU will begin the spring season at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate in Hawaii, Feb. 3-5. Last season was the first time in 30 years that TCU had not made a visit to the island.
The Frogs will compete at The Prestige, Feb. 21-23, at Greg Norman's Course at The Club at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. Last season, Jacob Skov Olesen earned co-medalist honors there with a score of 4-under 209.
TCU will be back at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, Feb. 27 – March 1 at the Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Grand Canyon Invitational will take place March 14-15, at the Grand Canyon University Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz. TCU stays in Arizona for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, April 4-5, at Whirlwind Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The Big 12 Championship will take place at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, April 25-27. TCU finished fourth last season and was the runner-up in the previous tournament in 2019.
TCU returns 10 from last year's team and four of the five that competed on its postseason team. The Horned Frogs qualified for their 31st straight NCAA Regional, a streak that only Clemson can claim under the same head coach.
TCU finished 16th at the NCAA Championships. It was the second-straight season that the Frogs finished in the top 20 nationally and the fifth time in the last eight seasons. The NCAA Championships remain at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 27 – June 1.
