Jill Kramer has added four-time All-American Haley Eckerman to the coaching staff
FORT WORTH -- TCU volleyball head coach Jill Kramer has added one of the most lauded volleyball players of the last decade, Haley Eckerman, to the TCU Volleyball coaching staff, as an assistant coach.
"I am eager to welcome Haley to TCU and Horned Frog Nation," Kramer said. "Haley has had a very decorated volleyball career, both in the Big 12, NCAA and professionally. She has so much to share with our student-athletes both on and off the court. Haley's competitiveness and passion for the game are contagious. She makes people around her better and has a strong desire to impact not only the gym she calls home, but the community she is in, as well."
Eckerman joins TCU after one of the most illustrious volleyball playing careers in Big 12 history. She played at the University of Texas from 2011-2014, where she was a four-time AVCA All-American and a 2012 National Champion. She has two years of Division 1 coaching experience, spending last season as the assistant coach at Tarleton.
"I am honored that I get to be a part of the Horned Frog Volleyball Family," Eckerman said. "I would like to thank Jill and the TCU athletic department for this awesome opportunity! I am so excited to get in the gym and work with a great, talented group of players and coaches."
A native of Waterloo, Iowa, Eckerman was the main contributor on three NCAA Final Four teams in her four seasons in Austin. She was named the 2012 Longhorn Female Athlete of the Year after winning the National Championship in her sophomore season and the Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013. Eckerman was named 2011 Big 12 Freshman of the Year before winning Big 12 Player of the Year in each of her next three seasons. She is only the second three-time Player of the year recipient in Big 12 history.
She was named AVCA All-America Second Team after her freshman season, followed by three-straight First Team All-America selections over her next three seasons in Austin.
Eckerman finished her career among the top 10 in six different statistical categories at Texas, including fifth all-time in total points (1,910) and total kills (1,662). She also racked up 4.42 points per set and is No. 7 all-time in aces, No. 8 all-time in kills per set and No. 9 all-time in aces per set.
Following her dominating career at UT, Eckerman earned a bachelor's degree in applied learning and development and went on to compete at the professional level for the next four seasons. Her professional career covered stops in South Korea, Puerto Rico, Azerbaijan, Italy and Russia. In 2018, Eckerman co-founded Team Dream – the first All-African American team to compete and win USA Open Nationals.
In 2018, Eckerman began her coaching career. She was named the head coach in her hometown at Waterloo West High School and led the team to their first regional final in over 20 years. She made the move to college volleyball the next season as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Lamar in 2019. Last year, she helped oversee Tarleton's first season in Division 1.
In 2020, she co-founded Think Outside the Box, a volleyball coaching and athlete development company that provides resources and support, while also addressing issues related to diversity within the game of volleyball amongst players and coaches at all levels.
Eckerman and her son, Cayden, join the TCU Volleyball family as the Horned Frogs prepare for their 26th season.
