Olesen leads three Frogs in the top 10
PHOENIX – After a decent opening round, the TCU men's golf team used round two to soar to the top of the leaderboard with its best round in two seasons Friday at the Thunderbird Collegiate.
The Horned Frogs shot 20-under 264 in the second round, which tied for the second-best in program history vs. par. Combined with a first round score of 10-under 274, TCU will begin Saturday's final round in first place. The Frogs' 30-under 538 is four strokes better than No. 3 ranked Oklahoma State (-26). It's also the best by a TCU team through 36 holes in two seasons.
All five TCU golfers shot under par in the second round at the Par 71 course. Sophomore Jacob Skov Olesen put together rounds of 4-under 67 and 6-under 65 and is tied for second place. Olesen made 13 birdies over the two rounds, including five straight during the second nine of the second round. The Denmark native is 10-under 132, one stroke out of first place, occupied by Utah's Blake Tomlinson (-11).
Olesen has shot under par in each of the last five rounds dating back to last week's Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
TCU's best round of the day belonged to freshman Filippo Celli, who shot 7-under 64 in the second round. It's Celli's second-straight tournament to have a round of 7-under par. Celli finished 7-under 153 on the day and tied for ninth.
Another Horned Frog in the top 10 is sophomore Gustav Frimodt, who is tied for fifth place at 8-under 134. The Denmark native put together rounds of 3-under 68 and a career-best 5-under 66.
Three teams failed to finish their second round due to darkness. The remaining second round and final third round will begin at a yet-to-be-decided time Saturday morning.
