FORT WORTH - Izzy Ashdown of women's swimming and diving, Lauren Heard of women's basketball and Russell Smith of men's baseball have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Ashdown became TCU's highest scoring diver at the Big 12 Conference Championships last Tuesday night. The senior from Sydney, Australia scored a 290.95 to claim the bronze medal. She also finished second in the 3-meter consolations, finishing 10th overall.
Next up for the women's swimming and diving team is the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships starting tomorrow.
Heard was named Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performances last week. The senior from Denton, Texas, had a pair of 30-point performances at Kansas State and Oklahoma, as well as a 28-point performance against Texas. She had back-to-back double-doubles with 31 points and 11 steals at OU, and 28 points and 10 rebounds against the Longhorns. Her 11 steals against OU is a school record.
Heard and the women's basketball team return to the hardwood this Thursday, March 11, taking on Kansas at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship.
Smith registered an outstanding performance on the mound this past Saturday against Texas State. The redshirt sophomore from Midlothian, Texas, struck-out a career-high 13 batters in six innings of work. It is the most strikeouts for a TCU pitcher since Nick Lodolo struck-out 13 at Texas Tech on May 16, 2019.
The men's baseball team return to action Wednesday night at UTSA.
