Horned Frogs are seeking fifth conference title
FORT WORTH – The No. 1-ranked TCU women's rifle team will head to Columbus, Ohio in search of its fifth Patriot Rifle Conference championship. The Horned Frogs won the title in 2020. They are the league's defending air rifle and smallbore champions as well.
TCU won three consecutive conference titles from 2016-18 in addition to its championship in 2020. In all four of their previous championships, the Horned Frogs claimed both the air rifle and smallbore crowns. TCU will also be seeking its sixth air rifle title.
The Horned Frogs have been dominating this season, winning all seven matches and finishing first in both disciplines in all matches. TCU is third nationally in smallbore season average (2,339.7) and second in air rifle (2376.4).
Sophomore Stephanie Grundsoee leads the NCAA in air rifle average (598.1) and sits second in smallbore average (590.6). She has finished atop the leaderboard in all seven matches in air rifle and six times in smallbore.
Kristen Hemphill ranks 10th nationally in air rifle (594.3) and tied for eighth in smallbore (585.7). Elizabeth Marsh is tied with her teammate for eight nationally in smallbore. She sits 12th nationally in air rifle (593.4).
Joining Grundsoee, Hemphill and Marsh at the championships will be Abigail Gordon, Nina Schuett and Grace Taschuk. Gordon is averaging a 579.1 score in smallbore and a 591.6 in air rifle this season. Schuett has had a strong freshman campaign, averaging a 578.6 in smallbore and a 589.8 in air rifle. Taschuck averages a 577.1 in smallbore and a 589.1 in air rifle.
Also competing for the title will be Air Force, Ohio State and UTEP. The two day championships gets underway Saturday with the smallbore competition. It will conclude on Sunday with air rifle. Both days will start at 8 a.m. (CT).
