
Freri Earns Third Consecutive Conference Honor

Freri earns second Swimmer of the Week and Newcomer of the Week honor
IRVING, Texas – For the third consecutive week, Geremia Freri has picked up Big 12 weekly honors. He is this week's Men's Swimmer of the Week and Co-Men's Newcomer of the Week.
Against USC, UNLV and UC San Diego at the USC Invitational, Freri won three individual events, notched three NCAA B cuts and broke three school records.
Freri kicked off the weekend with a win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:17.71, setting a new school record by 4.66 seconds. His time earned him his first NCAA B cut.
He followed that performance with a win in the 400 IM with a time of 3:49.52. The time was just .03 off the school record and earned him his second B cut of the weekend.
Freri then won the 1650 freestyle, notching an B cut with a time of 15:04.35. He shattered the previous record of 15:23.38 that was set in 2012 by Michael Franz. His 1000-yard split of 9:08.94 also set a new school record. The previous record of 9:15.77 was also set by Franz in 2012.
His times of 4:17.71 in the 500 freestyle and 15:04.35 in the 1650 freestyle are currently the No. 1 times in the country.
This is Freri's third week in a row receiving a Big 12 honor. He won Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 6 and was the Oct. 13 Newcomer of the Week.
