
Rifle takes aim at second win of the season

The Horned Frogs will travel to Virginia to take on VMI
FORT WORTH -- The TCU women's rifle team will travel back to the east coast to take on VMI for the second time this season at Kilbourne Hall in Lexington, Va. on Sunday. The Horned Frogs are currently ranked No. 4 in the latest CRCA poll, while the Keydets are at No. 23.
TCU started the season off strong with their win last weekend against Navy and VMI. The team fired the top aggregate score (4,710) in the nation during the first week of action. Their air rifle tally of 2,382 was also tops in the nation, while the smallbore score (2,328) was just one point behind Nebraska's top mark.
Individually, the Horned Frogs have shooters in the top 10 for both disciplines. Stephanie Grundsoee is currently first nationally in air rifle with her score of 598 and produced the fourth-highest mark in smallbore with a 583. Kristen Hemphill leads the team in smallbore, where she currently sits tied for second nationally with her score of 585. She is also tied for third in air rifle, along with her teammate Stephanie Allan, both with scores of 596.
Last weekend, Abigail Gordon contributed to her team's overall score when she fired a 592 in air rifle, which puts her at sixth nationally, and also contributed with her smallbore score of 578, which puts her at ninth nationally. Grace Taschuk also served as a counter last weekend in air rifle with her score of 588. Nina Schuett fired in the first match of her sophomore season and served as a counter in smallbore with her score of 582.
VMI's mixed team came in third last weekend, and the women's team placed fourth. The Keydet's mixed team was led by Simon Krauthamer with a 562 in smallbore and Jessica Hankin with a 578 in air rifle. On the women's team, Claire Lee and Victoria Phillips both fired a 543 in smallbore, and Maxine Gray-Berth fired a 571 in air rifle.
