It is the fourth consecutive year TCU has begun the season in the Top 20
FORT WORTH -- The TCU beach volleyball team has been ranked 15th in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Horned Frogs are ranked in the preseason for the 4th time under head coach Hector Gutierrez. In five seasons under Gutierrez, TCU has posted three 18-win seasons and three top-25 finishes. The team is coming off of an 11-4 record in the pandemic shortened 2020 season, the best winning percentage in program history (73.3 percent).
TCU set another program best over the summer of 2020, when it brought in its highest-ranked recruiting class, No. 8, according to VB Magazine.
That freshman class joins a group of experienced contributors from the 2020 roster. TCU returns its leading scorer from last season, Olivia Blackburn. Blackburn delivered a 9-2 record in her matches last season, all at the No. 1 pairing. She headlines a cast of returners that also includes fifth-year Horned Frog Haven Hill (2020 record: 8-3), second-year Daniela Alvarez (4-2) and Trinity Cavanaugh (7-3).
The Horned Frogs open the season with a crucial weekend against teams with similar rankings. TCU will travel to DeLand, Fla. to play against No. 11 Stetson, No. 12 Florida Atlantic, No. 13 Florida International and No. 14 South Carolina for its first action of the new season.
