
Fernández de Oliveira Advances at U.S. Amateur

FORT WORTH – TCU's Mateo Fernández de Oliveira advanced into match play at the 120th U.S. Amateur Championship at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.
A sophomore this fall at TCU, Fernandez de Oliveira will play in the round of 64 on Wednesday in match play format against David Perkins at 12:35 p.m. CT. The round of 16 will be played on Thursday, quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and a 36-hole championship match on Sunday. Live scoring will be found on the USGA Website.
Fernández de Oliveira finished the 36 holes at even-par 143 and finished tied for 36th. He shot even-par 72 in Monday's first round at the Bandon Dunes course and was 3-under in the final six holes. On Tuesday, he shot even-par 71 at the Bandon Trails course, including 3-under 33 on the front nine.
The Argentine played in eight events for TCU last season as a freshman. He led TCU with 13 scores of par or better, had a season scoring average of 72.57 and shot a season-best 7-under 209 at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate which included two rounds of 3-uner 69. Fernández de Oliveira also represented his country at the Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship.
