Matiyenga and Heard earn weekly honors
FORT WORTH – Tinotenda Matiyenga of men's track and field and Lauren Heard from women's basketball have been named TCU's Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Cram Crew.
Matiyenga, a junior from Zimbabwe, helped the men's team win the New Mexico Team Open. The sprinter secured a first-place finish in the 200m with a blistering 20.96. He also recorded a second-place finish in the 60m with a time of 6.690, just 0.003 seconds behind his teammate.
Matiyenga and the men's track and field team will travel to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational February 7-8.
Heard, a junior from Denton, Texas, averaged a double-double this past week, scoring 21.5 points and grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game as she led the Horned Frogs to wins over Oklahoma State and Kansas State. Against the Cowgirls, she dropped 25 points and recorded her eighth game of the season scoring 20+. The guard ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring with 19.2 points per game in conference play. For her efforts, Heard was named Big 12 Player of the Week.
The women's basketball team looks to continue its best start to conference play since 2010-11 when it travels to Lawrence for a matchup with Kansas on February 8 at 5 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
