Wallow and Ashdown earn weekly honors
FORT WORTH – Garret Wallow from football and Izzy Ashdown from women's swimming and diving have been named TCU's Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Cram Crew.
Wallow, a junior from New Orleans, La., anchored the TCU defense with a career-high 19 tackles (11 solo). It marks the most tackles for a Horned Frog in a single game since Travin Howard recorded 19 in 2016. Wallow leads the nation in tackles for loss, averaging 3.0 per game. He also ranks third in the NCAA in total tackles and solo tackles with 42 and 26, respectively. Wallow is currently on pace to finish the season with 104 solo tackles, a mark that would be the most by a player in TCU history.
Wallow and the football team look to bounce back when they host Kansas to start Big 12 Conference play on Sept. 28. The game is set to kick off at 11 a.m. and will be televised on FS1.
Ashdown, a junior from Sydney, Australia, helped the Frogs open the season with a 224-67 win over UT Permian Basin. She picked up first place finishes in both of the diving events, with a score of 245.9 in the 1-meter and 301.40 in the 3-meter. Ashdown's 3-meter score earned her an NCAA Zone Cut. Last season, Ashdown and teammate Connie Deighton became the first Horned Frogs to reach the NCAA Zones since the 2014-15 season.
Ashdown and the women's swimming and diving team travel to Miami, Fla. to compete in the FIU Classic on Oct. 4-5.
