Iqbal cards a 2-under-par 70
VAIL, Colo. -- Sabrina Iqbal carded a 2-under-par 70, including an eagle on her final hole, to lead the TCU women's golf team in its season-opening round Monday at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo.
The Horned Frogs are eighth out of 18 teams after shooting a 4-over 292.TCU is only 11 strokes behind co-leaders Ole Miss and Pepperdine.
Iqbal picked up where she left off last year, when she earned All-Big 12 honors as a freshman and posted a 73.0 stroke average that ranked second in TCU history. The San Jose, Calif., native recorded her eagle on the par 5, 510-yard 18th hole.
Iqbal had a team-best five birdies and is tied for 11th individually, just 4 strokes off the lead.
Trinity King, a freshman from Arlington, Texas, in her collegiate debut, posted TCU's first birdie of the season on hole No. 2. In recording an even-par 72, she birdied two of her opening five holes. She finished with three birdies and shot par on 12 holes.
Valeria Pacheco and Jennie Park both had 75s. Pacheco finished strong with birdies on three of her final five holes. Park, in her first tournament as a Horned Frog, had a pair of birdies.
Grace Do recorded two birdies in her opening six holes.
