PINEHURST, N.C. – Recent TCU graduate Stefano Mazzoli fell to Austin Squires Thursday in the Round of 32 at the 119th U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina.
In his second round of match play, Mazzoli trailed the former University of Cincinnati golfer by one after four holes on Course No. 2. Mazzoli then won the next four holes and led by three after nine holes. Squires, who on Wednesday survived a playoff to get into match play and then defeated medalist and No. 1 seed Brandon Wu in the opening round, won four of the next six holes to tie the match after 15 holes.
Tied after 18 holes, the match went back to hole No. 1 where Mazzoli bogeyed and Squires made par.
Mazzoli will turn his attention to starting his professional career. The Italian was a two-time PING All-American in his four years at TCU.
