TCU named 34th in the nation in preseason coaches’ poll
FORT WORTH -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its preseason Top-25 Tuesday afternoon, with TCU volleyball receiving 10 votes. It is the first time in program history to receive votes in the preseason national poll as the team prepares for its season opener, August 30 against High Point.
"It's an honor for our program to be recognized by the AVCA," head coach Jill Kramer said. "We are solely focused on the process with our team, making progress on and off the court, both in our individual play and as a team, day in and day out. We have a lot to learn and improve upon, and this team is very driven. They push each other and bring out the best in one another. That's what we continue to work towards as the season draws near."
The Horned Frogs have put themselves in prime position to claim their first Top-25 ranking in program history this season after already setting a program record by being ranked third in the Big 12 conference preseason poll, released earlier this summer.
TCU is the third of four Big 12 teams to be ranked or receiving votes in the poll. Texas claimed the highest rank (4), followed by Baylor (20), and Kansas coming in behind TCU with two votes. The Horned Frogs 10 votes places them 34th in the country ahead of programs such as UCLA (7), South Carolina (6) and Colorado (3).
Three of TCU's non-conference opponents received votes as well. Colorado State came in 28th with 51 votes, Florida State in 31st with 33 votes and Rice finished just behind the Frogs, claiming six votes.
PURPLE & WHITE SCRIMMAGE
Fans will get their first peek at the 2019 team in the annual Purple & White Scrimmage on Saturday, August 24 at 3:00 p.m. inside The Rickel.
LOOKING AHEAD
The schedule opens August 30, with a 7:00 p.m. (CT) match against High Point as the first match of the Cowtown Classic. TCU will play Lipscomb and Villanova on Saturday and Sunday respectively to complete the weekend, before welcoming Colorado State (9/6), FAU (9/7), Florida State (9/8), Miami (9/13) and Auburn (9/15) into The Rickel to complete the early season homestand.
