Longmire, Watson Earn Monthly Honors
FORT WORTH, Texas – Destiny Longmire from track and field and Josh Watson from baseball have been named TCU Scholar-Athletes of the Month for May.
Longmire's successful month includes Big 12 runner-up and advancing to the NCAA Championships. The Moreno Valley, Calif., native jumped 6.37m (20-10.75) on her sixth and final attempt at the Big 12 Championships in Norman, Okla., to earn a silver medal. Longmire matched that distance at the NCAA West Preliminary in Sacramento, Calif., placing third to advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin.
Longmire will compete in the long jump at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 at Mike A. Meyers Stadium.
Watson had six multi-hit games during the month of May including four home runs while driving in 15 runs. In the Big 12 Tournament, the Arlington native went 12-for-24, including a 4-for-6 game in a 13-6 win over No. 11 Oklahoma State, which included a home run and three RBIs.
Watson and the Frogs continue play at the NCAA Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., on Sunday.
