Junior earns Player of the Week Honors
FORT WORTH –TCU junior first baseman Jake Guenther has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week in helping the Horned Frogs to a 3-1 record last week. Guenther is the fourth Frog honored by the league this season.
Guenther extended his reached-base streak to 30 games and recorded three straight multi-hit games at Oklahoma. He posted a .615 (8-for-13) average in the three games against the Sooners. After a three hit game in the series opener, Guenther collected three more hits in Game 2 of the series. He scored the game-tying run in the sixth inning against the Sooners and delivered the game-winning hit for the Horned Frogs in the seventh with a bases-loaded single. On Sunday, Guenther collected two hits, stole two bases and scored twice to help the Frogs lock up the series.
He joins Porter Brown (Feb. 18), Austin Henry (March 18) and Nick Lodolo (April 1) as TCU honorees this season. Both Brown and Henry were named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, while Lodolo was selected as the Pitcher of the Week.
