TCU hosts its last tournament of the year and celebrates Senior Day.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 18 TCU beach volleyball team hosts the TCU Invitational on Friday, April 12 at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts. Senior Day festivities will be held at 3:30 p.m., and the team will honor Maddie Beal, Jaelyn Greene, Mandi Orellana and Molly Scheel.
The Horned Frogs (14-13) begin play on Friday by facing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-10) for a third time this season at 9:30 a.m. TCU moves on to face CCSA member UAB (13-12) at 1:30 p.m., and at the conclusion of this match the team will begin Senior Day recognitions. TCU wraps up the tournament in a ranked face-off against conference foe and No. 3 Florida State (20-5) at 5:45 p.m.
TCU Notables
TCU went 2-1 at the LSU Beach Invitational with 3-2 victories over No. 11 South Carolina and Texas A&M-Kingsville and a 4-1 loss to No. 4 LSU. The pair of Taylor Bradley and Molly Scheel went 3-0 on the weekend and are now 17-7 overall. The duo have won seven of their last 10 matches.
The Competition
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last played two weeks ago at the HBU Invitational. The Islanders went 2-2 and picked up wins over Louisiana-Monroe (3-2) and Abilene Christian (5-0). The team's only losses on the weekend came against Houston Baptist (3-2) and New Mexico (3-2). The Frogs have won both matchups against the Islanders this season, one sweep and another in a close 3-2 victory.
UAB competed at the GCU Tournament last week and went 3-2. The Blazers picked up three sweeps against Utah, Long Beach City College and Mt. San Antonio College, but fell to No. 7 Cal Poly (5-0) and No. 15 Grand Canyon (4-1). The duo of Jaelyn Keene and Tressa Buckland improved their individual records to 17-8 overall, which tied the UAB single-season record for wins. This is TCU's first match against the Blazers.
No. 3 FSU went 3-0 at the FSU Beach Bash last weekend. The Seminoles had three 4-1 victories and earned them against No. 16 FAU, No. 8 FIU, and No. 17 GSU. Payton Caffrey and Macy Jerger lead the Seminoles in wins this season with 20. The Horned Frogs are looking for their first win against the Seminoles after five attempts.
