Bane, Okonkwo Earn Weekly Honors
FORT WORTH, Texas – Amy Okonkwo from women's basketball and Desmond Bane from men's basketball and have been named TCU's Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Cook Children's Medical Center.
Okonkwo, a senior forward from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., had a stand out performance versus Iowa State. She recorded 17 points, 13 rebounds and two steals in TCU's 76-69 win over the Cyclones. She recorded 28 points, five boards, and four steals in last Saturday's loss against No. 1 ranked Baylor. She is fresh off her TCU career milestone of reaching 1,000 points.
Up next, Okonkwo and the Horned Frogs will travel to Morgantown, W.V. to take on West Virginia Saturday at 1 p.m.
Bane, a junior from Richmond, Ind., logged two terrific performances in a 92-83 win over Iowa State on Saturday and overtime loss versus No. 14 Kansas on Monday. On Saturday, Bane recorded 17 points, all scored in the second half, with six rebounds. He followed that up on Monday with 18 points, 13 of which came in the second half on 6-of-9 shooting, and also added seven rebounds.
Up next, Bane and the Horned Frogs will play host to Oklahoma on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Schollmaier Arena.
