Okonkwo, Rybakov earn monthly honors
FORT WORTH, Texas – Amy Okonkwo and Alex Rybakov were named TCU Scholar-Athletes of the month for January.
Okonkwo, a senior forward from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., had a stand out performance in the month of January. She finished the month averaging 14.4 points per game along with 9 assists and 8 steals.
She was also one of 15 student-athletes to travel to the NCAA Convention in Orlando, Fla. to participate in the autonomy governance process and vote on different NCAA rule-proposals. She was one of three student-athletes chosen to the represent the Big 12 to vote on 11 different proposals.
Okonkwo and the Horned Frogs will next host Iowa State at home on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Rybakov, a senior from Coral Springs, Fla. remained undefeated in both singles and doubles for the month of January. In total, he had nine wins, four of those against ranked opponents and three in straight-set victories.
Rybakov, ranked No. 8 player in the country, also received the Big 12 Player of the Week recognition in the third week of January. This marked his third career Big 12 weekly honor and his first of the season.
Up next, the No. 15 Frogs will travel to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Chicago, Ill. on Friday to take on No. 3 Mississippi State.
