FORT WORTH – Head coach Hector Gutierrez announced the 2020 spring schedule for the TCU beach volleyball team. The Horned Frogs will host three tournaments in the new year, featuring 12 dual matches, including three home matchups against teams that finished the 2019 season in the Top 10.
Overall, TCU will battle 13 ranked opponents from the 2019 campaign, including all eight teams from the 2019 NCAA tournament.
"I feel good about the schedule," Gutierrez said. "Every year we try to challenge ourselves more and more and this year will be one of the toughest schedules we've ever had because every year we've gotten better. I'm excited to see what the real potential of this team laying against the best teams in the country once again."
The Horned Frogs will host three weekends of volleyball at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts starting February 28-29. TCU will host Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, Nebraska and Abilene Christian for a set of duals in the second weekend of play. The team follows that with another weekend on the home sand (March 6-7) against three CCSA foes: LSU, UAB and Southern Miss as well as No. 13 Arizona. The final home weekend will be April 3-4 when TCU hosts Stetson, Pepperdine and Cal Poly – all of which played in the NCAA tournament in 2019 – as well as Houston Baptist.
TCU will finish the regular season in Los Angeles, playing in the East vs. West tournament, hosted by 2019 national champions, UCLA. The Horned Frogs will battle five of the top programs in the country: Hawaii, Pepperdine, California, USC and UCLA.
"I'm excited to see what the freshman can do this year," Gutierrez said. "We have a really talented and physical class that will blend really well with the upper classmen. It will be good for us to see how the freshmen react to the rigorous schedule and training that comes with playing at this level, playing under pressure against great opponents. I'm confident that they can handle it. They know the expectations of the program, their teammates and the coaches. They have our support and the support of the older girls. It will be a good mix. All we have to do is grow together and we can accomplish a great deal this season."
