Bane and Heard earn weekly honors
FORT WORTH – Desmond Bane of men's basketball and Lauren Heard from women's basketball have been named TCU's Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Cram Crew.
Bane, a senior from Richmond, Ind., led the Horned Frogs to a 2-1 record with wins over Wyoming and Illinois State. The guard picked up his first double-double of the season against Clemson with 17 points and 10 boards. He also paced the team in scoring, recording 22 points or better, in the two victories. Bane leads the team on the season in points scored as he averages 18.7 per game to go along with a 49.5 percent field goal percentage.
The men's basketball team takes on USC on Friday at 8 p.m. in the first-ever basketball game at Dickies Area in Fort Worth. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Heard, a junior from Denton, Texas, helped TCU pick up two double-digit wins to improve its record to 6-0 on the season. She scored 10 points and a team-leading two steals in the Frogs' road win at Army. The guard also exploded for a season-high 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting as TCU took down Boise State in the Maggie Dixon Classic. This season, Heard leads the team with 14.2 points and 3.7 assists per game.
Heard and the women's basketball team return to action when they host Auburn on Saturday as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
