TCU hits the road for a top 10 matchup
FORT WORTH – The top-ranked TCU women's rifle team is back on the road for a top-10 matchup at 10th-ranked Murray State on Saturday.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a huge weekend in which the team shot the best aggregate score in school history (4,732). There were also several key individual performances from Stephanie Grundsoee, who fired an NCAA leading 592 in smallbore and Casey Lutz, who posted a stellar 598 in air rifle.
Overall, TCU ranks second in the nation in total aggregate average with a 4,711.2, just 0.5 points behind West Virginia. Currently, four of the top 10 individual performers in the NCAA are Horned Frogs. Grundsoee sits in third with an average of 1,181.4. Sophomore Kristen Hemphill ranks fifth, boasting a 1,179.6. Lutz and Elizabeth Marsh are both tied for 10th with averages of 1,173.0
The Frogs also rank second in smallbore average with three of the top eight shooters in the country. Grundsoee owns the fourth best average with a 586.8. The freshman has posted a score of 585 or better in three of her last four matches. Marsh follows with the seventh-best average of 584.8, while Hemphill rounds out the top eight with a 584.0. In its last match, all four counters for TCU fired scores of 583 or better.
In air rifle, the Frogs have reclaimed the top spot in the country after tying the program record last weekend with a mark of 2,385. They are also represented by three of the top eight individuals in the discipline. Hemphill has yet to fire a mark below 595 this season as she owns the third-best average in the NCAA with a 595.6. Grundsoee and Lutz follow with marks of 594.6 and 593.6, respectively.
Murray State has the 11th-best aggregate average in the nation with a mark of 4,652.8. The Racers are coming off a 4,662-4,659 victory over Ohio State. This season they are paced by Meike Drewell in smallbore (578.3) and Anna Scheer in air rifle (592.5).
The match is slated to begin at 9 a.m. CT.
