Barber, Duggan and Hemphill earn weekly honors
FORT WORTH – Taye Barber and Max Duggan of football and Kristen Hemphill from women's rifle have been named TCU's Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Cram Crew.
Barber, a sophomore from Cypress, Texas, had a career day in the Horned Frogs victory over Texas Tech. The wide receiver caught eight passes for 137 yards, both of which were career-highs. In the first quarter, he made a juggling catch on a 43-yard pass to set up a TCU touchdown. Barber has had a huge impact on the offense since returning five weeks ago in the Kansas State game.
Duggan, a freshman from Council Bluffs, Iowa, led TCU to a 33-31 victory over Texas Tech in Lubbock over the weekend. He totaled a new career-high in completions and attempts on 25-42 for 323 yards and two scores. Duggan also picked up 75 yards on the ground, including a 20-yard score on the opening possession of the game. He also threw the longest touchdown pass of the season and his career, a 55-yard strike to Jalen Reagor in the second quarter. The signal caller has now thrown for 1,868 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season.
Barber and Duggan will be back on the field in Norman, Okla. with the TCU football team on Saturday when it takes on No. 8 Oklahoma at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on FOX.
Hemphill, a sophomore from Lohn, Texas, paced the Horned Frogs and fired a new career-best aggregate score of 1,184 over the weekend as the rifle team defeated No. 5 Nebraska and No. 13 Memphis. Her day began with a career-high smallbore performance as she fired a score of 588 and continued with a strong 596 in air rifle. She owns the fifth best aggregate average in the NCAA this season and has helped lead TCU to a No. 2 national ranking.
Hemphill and the women's rifle team are set to compete individually at the USA Shooting Winter Air Gun Championships on Dec. 6-8, which serves as part one of the United States Olympic Trials selection.
