The Horned Frogs will host their second and final match at home for the fall season
FORT WORTH – The third-ranked TCU women's rifle team is set to host No. 5 Nebraska and No. 13 Memphis inside the TCU rifle range on Saturday.
The Horned Frogs will host their second and final match at home for the fall season. They come into the matchup fresh off a 4,702-4,666 victory over Murray State.
Overall, TCU ranks second in the nation, boasting an aggregate average of 4,709.7 as well as four of the top 11 individual performers in the NCAA. Stephanie Grundsoee ranks fifth with an average of 1,180.0 and Kristen Hemphill is less than a point behind her with a 1,179.8. Casey Lutz and Elizabeth Marsh round out the top 11 with averages of 1,173.2 and 1,172.8, respectively.
In smallbore, the Frogs also rank second in the country. Grundsoee owns the fourth best average with a 585.8. Marsh and Hemphill are tied for the seventh spot, firing an average mark of 584.5. Hemphill is coming off back-to-back matches in which she tied her career-high mark of 587. In its last two matches, all four of TCU's counters have eclipsed the 580 mark in the discipline.
The Frogs own the top team score in the nation in air rifle with a 2,374.5 and are represented by three of the top eight individuals. Hemphill has fired the third-best average in the NCAA with a 595.3. Grundsoee and Lutz follow with marks of 594.2 and 593.3, respectively.
Memphis and Nebraska have the 12th and 13th best aggregate averages in the nation with marks of 4,651.6 and 4,650.4, respectively. Memphis is coming off a 4,675-4,646 loss to N.C. State last weekend, while Nebraska defeated Army by a score of 4,677-4,639. The Tigers are led by Levi Clark (1,167.4) and the Huskers are paced by Elena Flake (1,171.8).
Last time the Frogs competed at home (Nov. 2) they fired a new program record with a team score of 4,732. TCU will look to post its sixth straight score over 4,700 this season.
