TCU will compete in two fall scrimmages in the next two weeks
FORT WORTH, Texas – After months of conditioning and training, the TCU beach volleyball team is ready to face off against other competition as the Horned Frogs will take part in two fall scrimmages over the next two weeks.
Under the guidance of third-year head coach Hector Gutierrez, TCU will first travel to Phoenix, Ariz., from Nov. 3-4 before returning home to host a scrimmage at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts on Sunday, Nov. 11.
"The girls have been putting in a lot of hard work this fall, and I think they are hungry to get in some good competition," said Gutierrez. "This will be a great opportunity to see where we are at as a team and where we can improve before the season starts."
The Frogs will open up the fall tournament season by heading off to Phoenix, Ariz. from Nov. 3-4 to face GCU, USC, Arizona, and Pepperdine at the GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium. The tournament features two of last year's NCAA Championship teams, two-time national champion USC and the 2017 runner-up Pepperdine.
Upon returning from Arizona, the Frogs have a week to prepare for a home scrimmage when they host Houston Baptist and Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Nov. 11. The event will be located at Texas Image, which is located at 2221 109th St., Grand Prairie, Tx. The event is free and open to all fans.
"This will be our last day of competition before the holiday break and we hope to give fans a chance to meet the players and get excited for the home tournaments we have set up for the spring," said Gutierrez.
The Frogs are looking to bounce back from a 10-win 2018 season. Nine players return from last year's squad as they begin their first season as a member of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA). The CCSA sent four teams to the 2018 NCAA Championship last year, which was half of the field. Haven Hill and Jaelyn Green are two returnees that played in every match and each posted 12 wins. Jordan Westendorff also returns, and she led the team last year with 17 wins.
