Horned Frogs card a 9-under-par 279 to take the lead in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Annika Clark and Sabrina Iqbal carded 68s as TCU set a school record for lowest round with its 9-under-par 279 to take the opening day lead Sunday at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio.
The Horned Frogs' previous-best round was a 281 twice before in San Antonio, at the 2010 Alamo Invitational and the 2016 Maryb S. Kauth Invitational.
TCU has a six-stroke lead over Houston and Marshall.
Quote of the Day
"This is a product of these last several weeks of practice and competition," TCU women's golf coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "The ladies have continued to trust our process and work the plan. They are staying humble and hungry and continue to improve on our discipline. We are excited to compete and stay in the present."
Horned Frogs Rundown
Clark and Iqbal are tied for second and one stroke off the individual lead held by Marshall's Kerri Parks who shot a 67.
Clark equaled a career-low round set last fall at the Jim West Challenge. The lone senior in the Horned Frogs' lineup birdied three of her opening six holes and three of the final seven. She totaled a team-best six birdies on the day. It was the sixth career sub-70 round for the Highlands, Texas, native.
Iqbal is a freshman from San Jose, Calif, in just her second collegiate tournament. She posted five birdies, including three of her final eight holes.
TCU's Greta Bruner is tied for seventh after a 1-under 71. She recorded three birdies and shot par on 13 holes.
Freshman Valeria Pacheco carded an even-par 72 for the Horned Frogs and is tied for 13th. She totaled four birdies and was even par on the front nine and back nine.
Grace Do had a pair of birdies en route to a 75.
