FORT WORTH, Texas – élan McCall from volleyball and Yazmeen Ryan from soccer have been named TCU's Student-Athletes of the Week presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
McCall, a freshman from Leander, Texas, paced the Frogs in kills in both of last week's matches, which included a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to #4 Texas on Wednesday and a commanding 3-1 win over Texas Tech on Saturday. McCall has paced the team in kills in each of the Frogs' first five conference games. Along with recording 24 kills against Texas, she totaled her 10th double-double of the season and sixth straight on Saturday against Texas Tech, with 21 kills and 17 digs. The 21 kills by McCall marked the 16th straight match she had recorded double-digit kills, breaking the record of consecutive double-digit kill matches to start a season, set by Anna Vaughn in 2006.
The Horned Frogs are set to return to the court at Iowa State Saturday at noon.
Ryan, a sophomore from Norman, Okla., had a spectacular homecoming last Friday, scoring the game-winning goal in the Horned Frogs' 1-0 victory over Oklahoma. Her heroics led her to her fifth career and second straight match in which she scored the game-winning goal, the prior coming in a 1-0 win against #6 Texas on Sun., Sept. 30. Ryan's goal was her fourth goal of the season and the eighth of her career. It also came in overtime during the 105th minute, making it her second career overtime goal.
The Horned Frogs next travel to Lawrence, Kan. to take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
