TORRANCE, Calif. -- Two-time NCAA champion and reigning USATF Indoor Champion Ronnie Baker recorded his first career wind-legal sub-10 second 100-meter dash at the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif. on Saturday.
Baker flashed to a 9.99 first-place finish in the race, becoming the seventh Horned Frog to join the sub-10 second club. Only 119 sprinters have ever broken the 10-second barrier, and TCU has the most former student-athletes of any university in the sub-10 club.
Raymond Stewart started the tradition in 1989 with a time of 9.97, which still stands as the school record. Before Baker, the most recent sub-10 second time was ran by Charles Silmon (9.98) in 2013.
The Louisville, Ky. native had previously eclipsed the 10-second barrier on four occasions, but Saturday's performance marked the first wind-legal mark of his career, putting him in an elite group of athletes in the sport of track and field.
