Nov. 26, 2017 NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Walter Camp Football Foundation has named TCU's Mat Boesen as its National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Friday's 45-22 win over Baylor.
A senior defensive end from Torrance, Calif., Boesen set TCU and Big 12 records with 5 1/2 sacks, just a 1/2 sack shy of the NCAA single-game mark. He also forced a fumble which led to a TCU touchdown while totaling a team-best and career-high 10 tackles. Additionally, he had a quarterback hurry.
Boesen's 11 1/2 sacks on the year are tied for third most in a season at TCU.
Boesen is the second Horned Frog to receive Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors this season. Running back Darius Anderson garnered offensive accolades after his 160 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a 44-31 win at Oklahoma State.
