FORT WORTH, Texas - Coming off a victory on Wednesday, the TCU volleyball team will wrap-up its two-match home stand by welcoming No. 5 Texas for a showdown on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. at The Rickel inside the University Recreation Center.
The match between the Frogs (9-6, 1-3 Big 12) and the Longhorns (11-2, 3-0 Big 12) will air live on ESPN2 with Paul Sunderland and Karch Kiraly on the call.
Clear Bag Policy
Only the following items will be permitted upon entrance into TCU athletics facilities:
-Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceeding 14 inches by 14 inches
-One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
-One unopened bottle of water
-Small clutch bags with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the venue with one of the clear plastic bags
-The Small clutch bags must be approximately the size of a hand
-Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at stadium/arena gates
-Backpacks, diaper bags and other similar bags will not be allowed
Promotions
The first 100 students in attendance will receive a free doughnut from Funky Town Doughnuts.
TCU Quick Hits
-This season marks the third under the helm of alumni and Director of Volleyball Jill (Pape) Kramer
-Kramer (1996-99) was the first scholarship volleyball player on the inaugural team in 1996 and still holds the single-season and career school records in kills and total attacks
-Kramer has led TCU to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA tournament and has totaled over 100 career wins in her coaching career
-TCU is now 9-6 on the season and looking to build off its first Big 12 win of the season as they scored a 3-1 victory over Kansas State on Wednesday night
-In the first RPI of the season, TCU checks in at No. 56 with the 20th best schedule in the country
-The Horned Frogs are a young team with eight of the current nine true or redshirt freshmen having seen action this season
-True freshmen Dani Dennison, Sarah Swanson and Allye Beth Deaton have appeared in every match
-Ashleigh Martin has started a `Marty Party' this year as the junior leads the team with 3.08 kills per set and double-digit kills in nine of the last 12 matches
-Anna Walsh is becoming one of the most efficient hitters in the Big 12 as the junior hit above .300 in eight of the last nine matches and 10 matches this season
-Walsh has put down double-digit kills in nine matches this season and leads the team in Big 12 only match with 3.79 kills per set and .379 hitting clip
-The junior is also being defensive at the net and is ranked fourth in Big 12 only match with 1.14 blocks per set after recording a season-high 8.0 block at West Virginia
-Guiding the offense is two experienced setters in seniors Lamprini Konstantindou and Kaylee Smith who are dishing out 6.32 and 5.06 assists per set, respectively
-Dennison has been the anchor in the back row and is ranked third in the Big 12 with 4.87 digs per set after leading the league through the first two weekends of action
-Dennison has picked up double-digit digs in 14 of the 15 matches played this season and 20+ in five
-The highest ranked recruit to ever enroll at TCU in Abigail Buckingham has slowly made her way onto the court and is good for 2.80 kills per set when she sees action
-Deaton has been a steady contributor for TCU this season as the freshman is putting down 2.87 kills per set with a .249 hitting clip
Scouting the Opponent: Texas
-Texas is one of two teams left in the Big 12 with an undefeated mark in league action as they have picked up wins against West Virginia (3-2), Baylor (3-0) and Kansas State (3-0)
-As a team, the Longhorns are hitting .309 which is ranked No. 8 nationally and are holding its opponents to a .147 which is ranked No. 9 nationally
-Texas is also putting up 3.42 blocks per set which not only leads the conference, but also the nation
-Texas is pulling in a No. 5 ranking with its only losses on the year coming to then-No. 12 Florida and then-No. 1 Minnesota
-Two players are recording over 3.00 kills per set with Lexi Sun leading the way with 3.48 kills per set and Micaya White putting down 3.37 kills per set
-The middle positions are being held down by two experienced players in Chiaka Ogbogu and Morgan Johnson
-Ogbogu and Johnson are No. 1 and No. 2 in the Big 12 in blocks per set with 1.53 and 1.52 blocks per set, respectively
-Ashley Shook is guiding the Texas offense with 10.20 assists per set while also picking up 2.56 digs per set
Recap: Kansas State
-Double-digit team blocks along with four players notching double-digit kills led the TCU volleyball team to a 3-1 (28-30, 25-17, 31-29, 25-21) victory over Kansas State in a tough battle on Wednesday night
-Despite dropping the first set, TCU came back to take three straight sets for the third time this season to earn its first victory in league action this season
-The Frogs had four people earn double-digit kills for only the third time this season while also totaling a season-best 12.0 team blocks
-Anna Walsh led the team for the third straight match with a season-high 18 kills, while Abigail Buckingham tied her season-high with 15 kills
-Allye Beth Deaton scored a double-double of 14 kills and a career-high 19 digs, while Ashleigh Martin was good for 12 digs
-TCU scored 12.0 blocks as a team with Sarah Swanson leading the defensive effort at the net with 7.0 blocks
-Dani Dennison recorded her fifth 20+ dig match to lead the back row with 22 digs
